How long are we, the paying public, going to allow NASCAR to pervert what was once a serious form of competition. NEXTEL CUP is a joke nowadays, with timed "yellow flag" instances to facilitate driver favoritism and technical specifications with gaping holes in them.
True hot rodders will always try to find a mechanism to bend the rules, so called template cars will result in one thing only...BUMPA CARS at a carnival, with NASCAR as the ring masters.
Saddest part is that up and coming young guns remain mesmerised by this aura surrounding NASCAR....I suspect that the light at the end of the tunnel for many upcoming racers will turn out to be loss...a loss of competition, a loss of respect for the sport and a loss of respect for themselves.
Perhaps the spectators are waking up slowly, perhaps this is part of the reason for a resurgence in NHRA and IHRA, and smaller track competition series where real competition is available for everyone, even the spectators.

Not sure I agree on the timed yellow flags, a big organiztion like Nascar could never get away with something like that for very long because someone from the inside would eventually say something about it.
I agree with the rest of what you are saying, what wea re ending up with is the same car for everyone, with a Chevy, Dodge, Ford or Toyato emblem on them. Although, bumper cars at 200 mph sounds a lot more interesting than a carnival.

Now we have NASCAR talking about "green" fuels and crate motors. Let me see if I have this straight. Bodies, trannys, rear ends, motors, roll cages, frames, windows, seats, radios, tires, did I miss anything? And none of them made by Ford, GM, Chrysler or Toyota. And how is this "STOCK CAR RACING". WTF This isn't IROC. At least the car was made by an actual motor company. What is NASCAR thinking about? When they start selling the cars to the "teams" so they can "race" we'll see the real plan. That whirring sound you hear is Bill France spinning in his grave.
